Serious question Ladies and Gentleman. Why do we still have naysayers and various people still debating whether or not pole fitness is an actual sport?? That explanation alone should be the sole definition of pole fitness. I raise this question because I was thinking how awesome it would be to see pole dancers from all around the world compete on the largest sports stage ever. The olympics! Social Media has given us the opportunity to peek into different corners of our city, country even the world. But how awesome would it be see the best pole dancers from each represented country on a worldwide stage. Olympic athletes train for months even years for the sake of their craft.
Earlier this week we reported on the backlash against a fitness instructor offering pole dancing classes to children. Dressed in black shorts, pink tied-up crop tops and gold glittery bow ties, eight-year-old Tilly-May and Timea and year-old Mia took to the pole to showcase the class that has sparked such a debate. This Morning has sparked an online debate after featuring a demonstration of children pole dancing [Photo: Rex Features]. A concerned parent voiced her worries by tweeting: 'These eight year old [sic] are going to grow up and realise what it is and wonder why their parents let them do it. But not everyone agreed with the criticism with many taking to social media to defend pole fitness as a class for children.
The move also means Hertfordshire-based Katie Coates, founder of the IPSF, has moved one step closer to her goal of seeing pole dancing included in the Olympics. But not everyone has welcomed the news. While advocates of pole dancing say it is a physically demanding pastime deserving of sporting recognition, others say its break into the mainstream further normalises the objectification of women. A friend of mine was working in a strip club and she quit her job. Within six weeks of her leaving the club we noticed quite a big change in her shape physically. It boosts me physically and mentally. The goalposts keep moving but the rewards are amazing.
