Beginner students will learn floor work, exercises and combinations to explore their own movement style and creativity. Tutors bring their own personal movement vocabularies and choreographic styles, whilst teaching well-respected internationally-influenced techniques with a special New Zealand flavour. Megan, a graduate of the New Zealand School of Dance, works as a dancer, choreographer, rehearsal director and teacher. She is also a long-term yoga practitioner and is in her final year of Iyengar Yoga training. This class will explore aspects of contemporary dance technique in a fun, relaxed and creative way. This weekly class will involve Cunningham and release techniques and will be adapted throughout to meet the ability of all the dancers attending. You will explore the principles of expansion, transference of weight, floorwork and travelling developing the exercises each week. This is a fun class for dancers aged 16 years and over who have a little dance experience and want to enjoy learning contemporary dance technique in a supportive environment. Classes take place on a Tuesday evening at our purpose built dance studios. The ones that focus less on technique and cardio, and more on fun. And oh, the ones that actually go at a slower paced beginner level - because so many seem to move so fast! There seem to be so many adult beginner dance classes in NYC, yet not many of them seem approachable when you are feeling out of practice - and out of shape. All of those reasons led me to start dancing alone in my room because, hey, sometimes your teddy bear is the only audience you want.
